Club information about the current state of play

As you all know, the Swim Academy Network (SAN) has been providing an on-line, dryland program for all swimmers currently enrolled with SAN. Seb Bettiol and his coaches have done an amazing job over the past few weeks developing learning and exercise programs that aim to inspire, challenge and keep swimmers fit and healthy.

WMP thanks SAN for the support shown toward our swimmers and families during this time. Our team has provided not only a dryland and ongoing squad program created under their expertise, but many other activities, such as art classes, study sessions, trivia nights and colouring competitions, to engage our swimmers and their families, and to help maintain our sense of community and support.

Both WMP and SAN have been reviewing the current situation regularly, considering the various statements issued at both Commonwealth and State level, and guidelines issued by the AIS, Swimming Australia and Swimming Victoria.

Club representatives have attended multiple instructive webinars provided by Swimming Victoria regarding compliance and health and safety recommendations, and have completed a recommended Covid-19 training program.

We are also working closely with our various facility providers, which have each been extremely responsive, positive, and constructive in their guidance.

You will appreciate that the state of play is very fluid and evolving every day. At this stage, we cannot say with any certainty when pools may reopen, nor when swim programs may restart. However, we want you to know that we will continue to monitor the situation, and inform you of any developments when we know them. At this stage, it is possible that there may be a staggered reintroduction of in-pool programs sometime in June. Whatever happens, and whenever it happens, both WMP and SAN will communicate this to you.

In the meantime, the Club continues to have these priorities:

These are unprecedented times. We have never experienced social distancing and isolation in the way we recently have. It is extremely important to both WMP and SAN to maintain meaningful connections between ourselves and our swimmers. We will continue to provide our swimmers with daily routines, which aim to maintain the daily structure and discipline our swimmers thrive on. The coaches will continue to interact with swimmers, provide them with guidance and advice, and be available to assist with any issues or concerns they may have.

WMP has always strived to create a supportive team culture, and to provide pathways for our athletes to achieve their best. We have also always valued our community and the contribution we can make to supporting each other. We will continue to work to provide a positive framework of activities for our swimmers and their families, to keep our strong team culture alive. We also encourage our community to be there for each other, and to reach out to those whose individual situations may be difficult. If we can keep strong together, we can grow our culture and values when we come out the other side.

Whether you are a social or a competitive swimmer, we hope to keep you fit and ready to return to your normal training schedules as quickly as possible when pools reopen.  Our programs target aerobic fitness, strength, mobility and flexibility. This helps ensure we will be able to "hit the ground running" when we can dive in again!
